Whether you’re a local planning a day trip or a visitor eager to explore beyond the city centre, getting to Howth is simple and convenient. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the best transport options — from the DART train and Dublin Bus routes to driving directions — so you can choose the journey that suits you best and start enjoying all that Howth has to offer.
By DART (Train)

The DART is the commuter train that links Dublin to the coastline. It’s regular, fast & cheap. It takes you right into the centre of Howth in approximately 25 minutes. Head to any of the DART stations in the city and take the train for Howth.
Important: Don’t take the train for Howth Junction as it will not take you into the centre of Howth
By Bus

Buses run regularly from Dublin City centre to Howth. Depending on the number of stops it can take between 40-60 minuets. The Bus will drop you in the centre of Howth Village or the Summit.
The bus routes to Howth are H3 and Route 6
By Car

Howth is only approx 18km from O’Connell Street and driving may seem like the easiest option. However, in summer Howth is one of Dublin’s top tourist spots, so you may spend a lot longer in traffic than you might anticipate!
There is a Free Car park next to the harbour and at the Summit. This however is limited. Paid parking is available on the street, but again is limited.
